A warm welcome to students from Japan

日本からの留学生の皆さん、心より歓迎します!

“The ability to study by distance learning was crucial for balancing my work, family life, and studies. That’s why I chose LSHTM.” Kenji Fujiwara, Public Health by Distance Learning

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a global leader in public health and infectious disease research. With students, staff, and alumni from over 190 countries, we are proud to have a vibrant community of international students who contribute to our academic excellence and global perspective. This page provides specific information for applicants from Japan, including entry requirements, programmes on offer, and support available to help you thrive at LSHTM.

LSHTM is proud to have strong academic ties with Japan through meaningful collaborations in both education and research, spanning multiple fields. One example is our partnership in the joint PhD Programme for Global Health, run in collaboration with Nagasaki University’s School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health. This programme brings together the expertise of both institutions to equip students with advanced training in infectious diseases, epidemiology, and other global health challenges.

Additionally, LSHTM has established the Takeda Chair in Global Child Health, endowed by a £3 million donation from Japan's Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited. This chair supports vital research aimed at reducing child mortality in low and middle-income countries, further strengthening the collaborative efforts between LSHTM and Japanese institutions.

For Japanese students, studying at LSHTM means becoming part of a dynamic international community and gaining the skills needed to drive global health initiatives forward.
