In February 2026 the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) launched the Health Information Integrity Network. This new network is designed to help members counter harmful health information in the media, online and on social media.
The first step in the creation of the Health Information Integrity Network (HIIN) has been to set-up a mailing list where members can share intelligence about harmful health misinformation attacks impacting the UK, share calls to collaborate on campaigns or initiatives looking to counter health misinformation, and share knowledge and tools that can help members respond to attacks.
Who is the network open to?
The network is open to academic experts, communications professionals, and policy leads working at relevant organisations such as universities, charities, funders, NGOs, the NHS, government, as well as healthcare and technology firms.
As well as responding to misinformation attacks, the network will also focus on curating and creating trustworthy high-quality health information for the public that answers common questions and concerns.
Our principles
The founding principles of the network are:
Independent
All member institutions and individuals retain their own independent voice and choose how they want to collaborate as they see fit. While LSHTM hosts the network every member has a right to their own independent views.
Agile
Network members must be empowered and supported to respond rapidly and to innovate and experiment with new communications interventions.
Practical
Priority should be given to supporting ‘first responders’ to health misinformation: academic experts and communications professionals attempting to counter dangerous health misinformation in the media, on social media and online.
The HIIN was established following a call for expressions of interest in a network in September 2025. LSHTM is actively looking for opportunities to grow this network and is open to suggestions for potential partners who could help with this work.
