Guide to sessions

Welcome to LSHTM

Introductory messages from Prof Liam Smeeth, Director of LSHTM and Craig Higgins, Pro-Director Education.

Studying at LSHTM

Meet the MSc Taught Programme Directors and hear from student services and academic support, including the Careers Service; Library, Archive & Open Research Services; digital skills for studying and maths support. You will also learn about our new Colonial History of Global Health lecture series.

Student Support, Wellbeing & Safety

Live presentation and Q&A from Student Support Services and Health & Safety.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at LSHTM

Aims to equip new students with the skills and knowledge needed to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported, and comfortable, to be their true selves.

Decolonising Global Health

This session will provide a very brief overview of colonialism and global health, and LSHTM’s role in both. We will have a discussion about decolonising global health with facilitated breakout rooms and finally, we will introduce the DGH group at LSHTM and how students can get involved.

The Fight Against Institutional Racism (FAIR) Network

FAIR is a network whose aim is to produce and share knowledge about anti-racist praxis and decoloniality for the LSHTM community. We also provide a space to help students recognise, navigate and tackle racism during their time at LSHTM wherever and whenever they encounter it. In this session, we will provide an introduction to the network and to the new LSHTM anti-racism toolkit for students which is currently being developed and will be circulated to students in Term 1. This is a Q&A session, so students are welcome to bring any initial queries they may have about this work for discussion.

Student Life

Find out more about representing the student body from the Students' Representative Council, volunteering as a Student Ambassador from the Study Team, how to connect with our alumni community during and after your studies, and other ways to get involved as an LSHTM student.

Marketplace

Our Marketplace is the equivalent of a "freshers' fair", where you can find out more about the student services available to you and opportunities to get involved at LSHTM. Virtual Zoom stands will be open throughout the sessions so you can drop in and out of calls at your own pace, visit as many of the stands as you like and ask your questions. Full details of all the stands can be found on our Marketplace page.

IT Support & e-Learning

Daily optional drop-in for technical support with enrolment and accessing LSHTM email, intranet and Moodle; and to find out more about our digital skills for studying resources and training.

Accommodation Helpdesk

The Accommodation Helpdesk is a drop-in service for students still looking for a place to live in London during their studies. Our team of former LSHTM students will be on hand to offer guidance in your search. Open 12-5pm Monday-Friday during Welcome Week.

Zoom Social Café

Get to know your fellow students over lunch in short speed-meeting sessions.

Banking, Healthcare & Transport Q&A

Lunchtime drop-in Q&A session for students new to the UK or London to speak to our Student Advisers about banking, healthcare and transport.
