Ultrasound scan on a woman in the Fajara Clinic

Worldwide Radiology

Our X-ray services are supported by radiologists from Worldwide Radiology, who provide second opinion reports through a secure teleradiology service (supplied by Collective Minds Radiology).

Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH)

At the MRC Gambia, we offer residents from EFSTH in internal medicine and family medicine placements during their junior residency to rotate for their infectious diseases (internal medicine) and internal medicine / paediatric (family medicine). MRC Gambia provides the opportunity to experience working in a different setting with doctors from many different backgrounds. They also participate in our quality improvement projects.

Whilst at the Unit, they also spend time in the clinical laboratories, gaining experience in doing gram stains, Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) stains, urine microscopy and malaria smears.

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

We established and continue to nurture a fruitful relationship with the UCLA clinical microbiology department and the clinical laboratories. The team in UCLA have supported MRC Gambia in quality improvement projects, such as effective investigations on have high contamination rates in our blood cultures.

UCLA also support capacity strengthening for MRC Gambia and have trained staff on key areas, notably on how to develop an antibiogram from our laboratory data. The findings are now incorporated into our clinical guidelines.
