Work hands-on with real sexual health challenges, translating theory into creative, feasible, and ethically grounded solutions
The LSHTM Sexual Health Designathon 2026 is a fast-paced, participatory design sprint organised by STIRIG, CRD, SESH, and IDC. It is an in-person participatory event designed to build practical capacity innovation for sexual health.
This is not another seminar. It’s a high-energy design sprint where you’ll tackle real sexual health challenges, work in teams, pitch to judges, and build practical innovation skills that matter.
Participants will be placed in groups and given two hours to develop an innovative solution to a real-world challenge related to STI/HIV prevention. The event will begin with speakers introducing the challenge, relevant behavioural science and social innovation frameworks, and contextual background on the topic.
Groups will then have one hour to brainstorm and develop a creative, feasible solution, with support from coaches along the way, before presenting ideas to judges. Several teams will receive commendations, and one winning team will join a dinner with selected coaches, judges, and keynote speaker Dr. Remco Peters (WHO) on the evening of 2 June.
The event will conclude with informal networking at a nearby pub, giving participants the opportunity to connect with students, researchers, and professionals before the winning team goes to dinner.
The event is open to anyone able to attend the event in person. No prior experience is required.
