- When will I receive an invitation to the ceremony?
Invitations will be emailed to face-to-face MSc and Research degree students in November 2019. DL students will be notified towards mid-December 2019 if they are eligible to attend. Face-to-face students should make sure to let Student Records know if your contact details have changed, including your personal email address, as you may not receive your invitation otherwise. DL students should ensure they contact UoL via the Student Portal to update contact details before December 2019.
Any student that believes they are eligible to attend the ceremony but who have not received their invitation by mid-December 2019 should contact the Graduation Office at email@example.com with the following details: full name, student number, course, and current email address.
- Am I eligible to attend the ceremony?
If you find that you have not successfully passed your MSc degree this year you will not be eligible to attend the ceremony. Those re-sitting will be eligible to attend once they have passed, or may defer their attendance to a future year subject to successfully completing the course.
RD students must have submitted their hard-bound theses by 10 January 2020 to be considered for the 2020 Graduation ceremony.
- How do I register my attendance?
You must register in advance if you wish to attend. Please confirm your attendance by completing the online registration form. This link will be emailed to you with your invitation in November 2019 for face-to-face students and in mid-December for DL students.
- How do I know which ceremony to book for?
Your allocated ceremony timeslot to attend will be dependent on your course. We have one morning and one afternoon ceremony. We are unable to confirm allocations until November 2019.
- I am unable to attend. How do I receive my certificate?
Your certificate will be posted to the address we have on your file after the event. For distance learning students, your certificate will be posted to you by the University of London. If your certificate has not arrived within 3 months of the award date please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
- I have been invited to attend the UoL Graduation ceremony as well . Which ceremony shall I attend?
You are very welcome to attend both the LSHTM and University of London ceremonies. You will receive the invitation to the UoL Graduation ceremony directly from them.
- How do I book tickets for my guests?
Students must register their attendance via our online booking system, where you will be able to purchase guest tickets. You will be able to purchase up to two guest tickets in the first instance. Additional tickets may be released in January 2020.
- Can I bring children to the ceremony?
A crèche facility will be available free of charge for the duration of the ceremony. You must register your interest for this service when you register your attendance with spaces available on a first come, first served basis. The ceremonies last up to two hours, and are not suitable for very young children. Babies and children aged two years and under are permitted to sit on an adults’ lap, however this is not recommended. Children aged over two years will require a seat, and this will need to be covered within your ticket allocation.
- Will my child need a ticket?
All guests attending the ceremony, including children, will require a ticket. Babies in arms are the exception.
- How do I book crèche facilities?
If you would like to make use of this facility please register your interest via the registration link at the time of booking from November onwards.
- How do I request a visa support letter to come to London for the ceremony?
Once invitations have been issued in November 2019 and you have registered to attend, students, who studied face-to-face courses in London, and require visa support letters for themselves or their guests should contact email@example.com and attach a copy of your passport photo page and full names of those who require a visa. Distance Learning students requiring visa support letters should contact the Distance Learning Office at firstname.lastname@example.org and attach a copy of your passport photo page and full names of those who require a visa.
- Do I need to hire a gown?
You are not obliged to wear gowns. It is your own choice. For information, approximately 75% of attendees do usually wear gowns. Alternatively, you are also invited to wear national dress.
- How do I order a gown?
You will be able to hire a gown from our supplier from November 2019. Details of how to do this will be included in your invitation.
Photography & video
- Will the ceremony be broadcast on the internet?
Yes. The ceremony will be recorded and will be available to watch live online. The feed will also be available for download after the ceremony. Parts of the recording may also be used in various School materials in the future.
- Will professional photographs be taken at the ceremony?
Yes, there will be photography services on the day. This will include an opportunity to have photos with your guests. There will be photography studios set up both at Friends House and Keppel Street.
- Should I book my photography session prior to attending the ceremony?
No advance booking is required. You will be able to book a slot on the day.
- Will LSHTM merchandise be available on the day?
Yes. There will be a selection of School branded merchandise available from the Keppel Street building during the receptions.
- Where will the ceremony take place?
The ceremony will take place at Friends House, 173-177 Euston Rd, London NW1 2BJ
- How long will the ceremony last?
The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
- Will there be a reception after the ceremony?
All attendees are invited to a celebration at Keppel Street following your ceremony. Drinks and nibbles will be served for approximately two hours.
- Am I able to sit with my friends during the ceremony?
You will be pre-allocated to a seat and names will be read out in the same order. It is therefore imperative that you sit in the seat specifically allocated to you.
- Will my name appear in the graduation brochure?
Yes. All those eligible to graduate will have their name in the brochure, irrespective of whether you choose to attend the ceremony.
- Will I receive a copy of the graduation brochure?
Yes. Each graduand attending the ceremony will receive a copy of the brochure.
- Will the School pay for my travel expenses?
No. Accommodation and travel costs must be met by the graduand. Information on hotels in the area can be found at: www.hotels.com.

The nearest tube stations are Euston and Euston Square. Parking facilities are not available at the venue, however the nearest NCP car parks can be found at Russell Court, Coram Street, London, WC1H 0ND and Marchmont Street, London, WC1N 1AF: http://www.ncp.co.uk.
- Will disabled facilities be available at the venue?
Yes. If you or your guests have any access requirements or questions please contact the graduation team as soon as possible - email@example.com.
- Will I be given instructions for the day?
Yes, we will email all graduands with instructions for the day approximately one week before the ceremony, please ensure you read through all the details.
- How do I keep in touch with the School?
