The MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research will hold a five-day hands-on training in Python for Research and Clinical Data Management, from 26–30 October 2026 at the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit, Entebbe.

The course is designed for students, researchers, data managers, statisticians, laboratory professionals and other professionals seeking to strengthen their skills in data management, automation, data analysis and reporting using Python. Through interactive lectures, guided demonstrations, practical exercises and real-world applications from research, clinical and public health settings, participants will gain practical experience in importing, cleaning, validating, analysing and visualising data, automating routine workflows, and generating reproducible reports to support evidence-based decision-making.

No prior Python programming experience is required. However, familiarity with statistical software such as R, Stata or similar analytical tools is recommended. Participants with previous Python experience will also benefit from learning best practices for developing efficient, reproducible and maintainable code.

• Day 1: Introduction to Python, Environment Setup and Best Practices
• Day 2: Data Cleaning, Preprocessing and Data Quality Checks
• Day 3: Automation, Regular Expressions, Reporting and Introduction to AI
• Day 4: Descriptive Analysis, Statistics and Data Visualisation
• Day 5: Integrated Case Study and Hands-on Practical Session

• Participants will be awarded a certificate upon successful completion of at least 90% of the course sessions.
