As part of its capacity building programme, the Entebbe based Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) together with her partner institutions which include Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI), Rakai Health Services (RHS), Centers for Diseases Control (CDC) and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative - Africa programme (IAVI) have welcomed 64 under-graduate students for the 2016 internship programme.
In a speech read for him at the induction event that was held on 10th June, 2016, Prof. Pontiano Kaleebu, the acting Director UVRI and Director of MRC/UVRI, called on the students to utilize the resources at the campus and ensure that they get the best out of their internship attachments.
Admission onto the annual internship programme is very competitive and attracted 248 applications from second and third year students from Universities throughout the country. At the same event, staff from the different institutions at the UVRI campus made presentations about the respective institutions, their mandates and work. Other presentations made covered Research ethics, communication and research, workplace safety as well as career development.
The successful applicants will be attached to different departments at the respective institutions for a duration of one to three months as part of their industrial training, a requirement for the fulfillment of their undergraduate degree programmes.
