Research is conducted through six thematic Communities of Practice—groups of researchers specializing in discrete areas of school health and nutrition, established in accordance with the evidence gaps identified by SMC member states. These include:

  1. Impact & Evidence: Why Do It?
  2. Analytics & Metrics: Value-for-Money
  3. Good Examples: What Works?
  4. Nutrition: Nutritious Meals
  5. Diets & Planetary Health: Sustainable Meals
  6. Food Systems Transformation: Sustainable Agriculture

A seventh Community of Practice, led by partners in Brazil and focusing on learnings from the success of their national school meals programme, is under development.

A cross-cutting priority across all research areas is the inclusion and cultivation of the talent of Early Career Researchers.
