About

A major focus of research at LSHTM is in developing new and improved diagnostics and interventions, in particular for the detection and treatment of infectious diseases. Molecular, imaging and related patient health data plays a critical role in their development. New diagnostics are increasingly being driven by observations derived from the analysis of very large datasets and being used to inform and aid clinical decision making.

On the evaluation side, LSHTM has a strong strand of work that uses routine data to evaluate the safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of clinical and public health interventions. This observational work uses cutting edge approaches to defining the forms of the intervention, which may well be complex and multi-faceted, and to addressing major problems that arise with large-scale data.
