Pleasure is arguably the key reason people have sex globally, and yet pleasure, love, desire are almost entirely absent from STI research which has focused overwhelming on the negative consequences of sex such as death, danger, and disease. Global Health Advisor, SRHR Innovator, Founder of The Pleasure Project
Anne Philpott is a senior global health advisor with over 30 years of leadership driving transformative sexual and reproductive health, disease preparedness, and health systems strengthening initiatives worldwide.
At the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (formerly DFID), she led flagship programs including the £320 million Women’s Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) programme, which delivered in over 27 countries and is recognised for delivering essential health care during C19. Other roles included leading the Regional Ebola Crisis Unit, Health and Nutrition programmes for lead for DFID India and evaluation lead Africa.
Anne is the founder of The Pleasure Project, a pioneering initiative that integrates sexual pleasure and well-being into global health programming. Her work has created paradigm shifting evidence and influenced policy at the UN and over 70 major delivery agencies alongside being featured widely in global media. Her innovative approach challenges traditional narratives, advancing more effective, inclusive sexual health programming globally.
She has also driven innovative product delivery, including introducing into a large range of countries the internal condom, the second only HIV prevention tool, ensuring it is still available today.
Known for designing scalable, rights-based health interventions that engage marginalised communities, Anne brings deep expertise in policy, program strategy, and cross-sector collaboration to accelerate equitable health outcomes worldwide.
