LSHTM and Global Health Film series: I Am Breathing
I Am Breathing follows Neil Platt after he is diagnosed in his 30s with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a type of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Neil puts together a letter and memory box for his baby son Oscar and communicates his experience and thoughts about life in a blog and this film. His blog posts form the film’s narration as he tells his own story through memories and impressions of his life, in what he called “a tale of fun and laughs, with a smattering of upset and devastation.”
Join us for a screening of I Am Breathing, followed by a panel discussion. The panel discussion will be chaired by the co-Director of the LSHTM International Centre for Evidence in Disability (ICED), Professor Hannah Kuper.
This screening is part of our partnership series of global health screenings with the Global Health Film.

Nick is Professor of Disability Research and Chair of Disability Studies at the University of Glasgow. Nick has conducted qualitative research with people with motor neurone disease, exploring their experience.

John, from Scotland, was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), a rare form of MND, in 2017. He is active with the charity MND Scotland, to help raise awareness of the disease.
