As part of National Nutrition Month, celebrated each September across India, MSSRF hosted a consultation on nutrition during the first 8,000 days of life. Despite Tamil Nadu’s pioneering Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme, whereby children aged 0-6 receive supplementary nutrition, immunization, health check-ups, and preschool education, a dual burden of undernutrition and overnutrition persists in the state. Experts from different sectors made several policy recommendations to improve the nutrition of school-age children and adolescents, including strengthening school meals programmes and leveraging new technologies to develop solutions for nutritional assessment and interventions.
