Research highlights from the International Union Against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) World Congress

In this webinar, Professor David Mabey will be presenting highlights from the 23rd IUSTI World Congress, feeding back on cutting-edge topics discussed in the field of sexually transmitted infection (STI).

This webinar is also aimed to showcase the work presented by LSHTM researchers during the conference, demonstrating the breadth and impact of our School’s research.

Professor Mabey and LSHTM colleagues will be attending the 23rd IUSTI World Congress from 4 to 7 September 2022 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The conference brings together international experts to provide state-of-the-art presentations on STI research. The theme of the conference is “Confronting Inequities in STI Prevention, Diagnostics and Care”.

Professor_David_Mabey

Professor David Mabey is a physician specialising in Infectious and Tropical Diseases. After training in the UK, he went to work at the Medical Research Council Unit in The Gambia, West Africa in 1978, and was in charge of clinical services there from 1982-86. He joined LSHTM as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Sciences in 1986 and was made Professor of Communicable Diseases in 1994. He was an Honorary Consultant Physician at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London from 1987-2019. He was head of the Clinical Research Unit in the School from 1995-2002 and from 2017-2020, and Director of the Wellcome Trust Bloomsbury Centre for Clinical Tropical Medicine/Global Health Research at LSHTM from 1995 to 2018. 

His research interests are in Neglected Tropical Diseases, in particular trachoma and yaws, in sexually transmitted infections and in causes of fever.  He has been a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Group of the WHO Department of Reproductive Health and Research, and was Director of the WHO Collaborating centre for the Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Infections at LSHTM from 2014-2020.
