MARCH Centre Careers Event
On Wednesday the 27th April the MARCH centre is hosting a Careers Event for students who are hoping to forge a career relating to maternal, reproductive, newborn, child and adolescent health. We have invited a wide range of speakers with extensive experience in many different fields related to the MARCH streams. They will speak about their career path, the challenges they have faced and their everyday working life, as well as answering student’s questions as part of a small panel.
Speaking at the event will be Dr. Kathryn Church, a Lecturer in Sexual and Reproductive Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Kathryn works for Marie Stopes International as their Senior Scientific Advisor within their Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Team. She also co-organises the Family Planning module and teaches on various other modules at the School.
Dr. Neha Singh is a research fellow and Health Systems and Policies Technical Coordinator at Countdown to 2015, with experience in quantitative and qualitative research, in addition to programme implementation. She completed a PhD at LSHTM before aligning her work with Countdown to 2015; and contributes to the Nutrition in Global Health and Reproductive and Sexual Health Research MSc courses.
June Wahome has worked with Save the Children for the last five years as a child protection manager, working in Juba, South Sudan, and Dadaab Refugee Camp. She also has a wealth of experience working with other NGOs and in partnership with the Government of Kenya.
Dr. Abubakr Bakri studied medicine in Sudan and graduated from University of Khartoum. He joined Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 2008 as a medical doctor and worked with the organisation in the most affected war-torn zones like Darfur, South Sudan, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia and Nigeria. In his last mission, he has been to Nigeria where he worked as MSF Head of Mission (Country Director) for two years.
Professor Joy Lawn, Director of the MARCH Centre will be chairing the panel.
The event will take place in the John Snow Lecture Theatre B at 5:15pm-6:30pm and is free and open to all.
