Human longevity and mortality forecasting

A joint seminar exploring mortality at older ages and theory - informed framework for mortality forecasting

Graphic with text - LSHTM Event

This joint seminar brings together two research talks exploring global mortality patterns. The first examines old-age mortality beyond high-income countries, investigating whether older adults in low- and middle-income countries follow the same mortality and health patterns as those in wealthier settings, and how these patterns vary across LMICs. The second addresses recent slowdowns in life expectancy improvements and their implications for forecasting, presenting a theory-informed framework that shifts the focus from trends to underlying mechanisms. Both talks will be followed by discussion. The seminar is aimed at LSHTM staff and students with interests in demography, population health, and mortality research.
