Lecture on contemporary global health issues
In this lecture, professor Liam Smeeth will outline some of the major challenges to health that we will face over the coming decades. He will demonstrate the importance of research as the evidence base for efforts to improve health, and how we can best embrace new technologies.

Professor Liam Smeeth, LSHTM
Professor Liam Smeeth is the Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a professor of clinical epidemiology. He is also a practicing doctor in NHS general practice. During his career he has been supported by fellowships from MRC, NIHR and Wellcome. He was previously a Trustee of the British Heart Foundation and a non-executive director of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. He is a member of the strategic oversight committee for UK Biobank and an elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He co-chair the BMJ Commission on the Future of the NHS.
