HIV and syphilis self-testing secondary distribution

Dan Wu

HIV self-testing (HIVST) is increasingly used in low- and middle-income countries for testing scale-up. Social media and secondary distribution through individuals’ networks each show strong promise to improve test uptake among men who have sex with men (MSM). The application of these two methods in combination has been underexplored.  Dan will talk about:

  • HIV prevalence changing trends among Chinese MSM
  • the pilot program that combines social media and  secondary distribution of HIVST in Zhuhai
  • the evaluation of the feasibility, and;
  • effectiveness of the program in reaching new testers and positive-case identification among Chinese MSM.

Dr Dan Wu is Newton International Fellow sponsored by the Academy of Medical Sciences and research fellow at the International Diagnostic Center, LSHTM. She is a public health researcher with an interest in using innovative strategies to improve diagnostic services uptake in China.
