New Centre Co-Directors Announced

We are delighted to welcome new members to the GHECO leadership team
Timothy Powell-Jackson and Giulia Greco

We are pleased to announce that Timothy Powell-Jackson and Giulia Greco have been appointed to join Andrew Briggs and Mark Jit on the Global Health Economics Centre’s (GHECO) leadership team.

Anna Vassall has stepped down as GHECO Co-Director, after four years in the role overseeing our transition from the Centre for Health Economics in London (CHIL) to a fully-fledged LSHTM Centre. Anna has accepted a new half-time position as Executive Director at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development and will remain part of LSHTM in a dual appointment.

We sincerely thank Anna for all her hard work leading health economics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), including the organisation of our first face-to-face retreat last year, and wish her well in her new role.

Tim and Giulia are both long-standing members of the LSHTM health economics community with complementary skills to drive forward the vision for health economics at LSHTM.  These are exciting times for GHECO as a LSHTM Centre and with the new additions to the leadership team, we are confident that we will see GHECO continue to evolve as an organisation.

Tim is a Professor of Health Economics and much of his work involves the evaluation of policies that seek to increase patient demand for healthcare or improve the quality of care.

He said: “It’s an honour to the join the leadership team as a co-Director of GHECO. As a member of the health economics community at LSHTM for more than fifteen years, I have been fortunate to work with some inspirational colleagues and forge collaborations with partners in many countries. Under Anna Vassall’s leadership, GHECO has established itself as one of the world’s leading groups of health economists. I’m looking forward to the next phase of its development, finding new ways to support the quality of health economics research at the school, encourage multidisciplinary collaboration and engage more with our research degree students.”

Giulia is an Associate Professor in Health and Wellbeing Economics and is interested in understanding the value of health and quality of life, and the measurement of broader outcomes in the evaluation of public health programmes, including capabilities and subjective wellbeing.

She said: “I feel very privileged to be appointed as co-Director and I am excited to be working together with Andy, Mark and Tim and the wonderful GHECO community. Our diversity is our strength and I am looking forward to supporting our community to become an even more vibrant, active, engaged, outward looking and inclusive place of research, education and outreach for researchers at all stages of their careers.”
