The Centre for Evaluation aims to improve the design and conduct of evaluations of complex public health interventions through the development, application and dissemination of rigorous methods, and facilitate the use of robust evidence to inform policy and practice decisions.
We strengthen LSHTM’s evaluation portfolio by facilitating collaboration between staff, students and external partners.
- Centre vision
The Centre for Evaluation is working to improve the design and conduct of evaluations of complex public health interventions through the development, application, and dissemination of rigorous methods, and to facilitate the use of robust evidence to inform policy and practice decisions.
- Strategic vision
Our strategic aims are to:
- Promote high-quality evaluation studies using multidisciplinary methods
- Develop innovations in evaluation methodology
- Improve the quality of evidence used to inform policy and practice
- Serve as a national and international resource for evaluation expertise
Our activities include:
- Capacity building: seminars, workshops, networking events and training sessions
- Teaching: contributing to LSHTM and external training
- Technical support for LSHTM members: drop-in sessions for advice on evaluation designs and methodologies; an Evaluation Review Committee to advise on research proposals or study protocols; and resources to support grant or fellowship applications
- Communications: member mailing lists and newsletters; highlighting events, research, conferences, funding, training and job opportunities; sharing study findings and member achievements.
We organise our work around three themes:
- Evidence Synthesis
- Process Evaluation
- Impact Evaluation
Cutting across the themes, we consider the role of three topic areas of particular importance to evaluation:
- Decolonial and equitable approaches
- Participatory practices and co-production
- The use of artificial intelligence
