I am a Professor of Global Environmental Health and part of the Climate and Health Group which leads climate change and health research at LSHTM.
I am Director of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) on Climate Change and Health Security which undertakes high-quality research to inform UK public health policy on climate change in partnership with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), University College London (UCL), and the Met Office. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved in our HPRU research and activities.
I am the Primary Investigator of THERM-UK which is a 4 year NERC-funded project quantifying the health benefits from reducing heat exposures through public health, housing policy and nature based solutions. Learn more about THERM-UK research and partners on our website.
I am also Co-Investigator on the following projects:
- HEARTH: National hub on net zero, health and extreme heat funded by UKRI and NIHR. HEARTH examines how the transition to net zero emissions can benefit vulnerable populations by improving health outcomes, such as reducing heat-related illnesses and enhancing living conditions during extreme heat events. It is a large multidisciplinary collaboration between LSHTM and Oxford Brookes University (lead partner), UCL, LSE, University of Leeds, University of Edinburgh, and a wide network of UK stakeholders. (website coming soon)
- ARCADE: Accelerating Resilience and Climate Adaptation of Domestic Environments for vulnerable populations. ARCADE (lead partner UCL) aims to protect heat-vulnerable populations in the UK by improving resilience within homes. It is part of the UKRI-Defra 'Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change' (MACC) programme.
I am a member of various networks including:
- The Lancet Regional Health Europe Commission on Health, Migration and Climate Change in Europe
- The Global Climate Change-Homelessness Network
- The Climate Surveillance Subgroup at Public Health Wales
- The Climate and Health Researcher Network established by OKRE (Opening Knowledge across Research and Entertainment)
