Pay-it-forward: a strategy for enhanced uptake of dual gonorrhoea and chlamydia testing among men who have sex with men in China

Joe Tucker

Crowdsourcing is an innovative public health intervention that can be applied to the control of STIs in key populations at risk; yet financial constraints are still a barrier to STI testing. Our study evaluated a pay-it-forward programme among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Guangzhou, China, in which participants had an option to finance a gonorrhoea and chlamydia test for future participants. This talk will present the results from our study.

Joe Tucker is an Associate Professor at LSHTM and an infectious diseases physician with a special interest in using public challenge contests to improve health. His group investigates challenge contests to promote HIV testing and other behaviours. Joe is the Chairman of the Steering Committee of Social Entrepreneurship to Spur Health (SESH), a group focused on using public challenge contests to improve health. He mentors trainees undertaking crowdsourcing research, and leads the UNC-South China STD Research Training Center.
