Educational/professional background
As a public health nutrition professional, I have designed my interdisciplinary educational journey beginning at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in Food Security and Public Health Nutrition. As Fulbright Scholar, I lived in Puebla, Mexico through the Fulbright-García Robles programme, building on my previous experience working at a health clinic in the rural highlands of Guatemala. In my professional career based in Latin America and the Southeast United States, I have experience working in international NGOs, advocating on state and local food policy, and conducting qualitative research. I began my journey at LSHTM as a Rotary Global Grant Scholar in 2023 on the MSc Nutrition for Global Health.
What I enjoyed most about studying my programme/at LSHTM
The diversity and quality of students who study at LSHTM brought me rich insights that enhanced the academic rigor. Just imagine sitting in a classroom reading a case study about a public health intervention, and your classmate happened to work on this! We all learned from each other and built community over the course of the year, so it is the relationships and shared passion for public health that I carry with me post-MSc.
Since graduating I have been...
After graduation, I entered the United Nations through a position with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN at the Headquarters in Rome. I was a Nutrition Mainstreaming intern in the Food and Nutrition Division. I was able to support high-level policy and advocacy events related to investments for nutrition, develop communications for coalitions on heathy diets and sustainable food systems, and monitor and report on heathy food environment efforts across FAO's 170 offices worldwide.
Extra information
In addition to professional trajectory, I am a visual artist and use art as a medium to capture nourishing, equitable food systems.
