MSc Nutrition for Global Public Health

Alma Flores

Educational/professional background

I’m a public health professional from Mexico who has lived and studied in the US, currently pursuing the MSc Nutrition for Global Public Health at LSHTM. I hold a BA in American Studies and Global Public Health from the University of California Berkeley, where I built an interdisciplinary foundation that informs my approach to advancing nutrition and health equity.

Research interests or career goals

My work spans the US, Latin America, and West Africa, supporting programs for migrant youth, pregnant women, and rural families through nutrition education, improved food access, and nutrition-sensitive interventions. I am particularly interested in how gender dynamics, community practices, mobility, and political ecological systems shape food and nutrition outcomes. Drawing on anthropological and sociological insights, I design equitable, evidence-based interventions that bridge research and community knowledge.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I chose LSHTM because it is a global leader in nutrition and public health research. Studying here will strengthen my ability to develop context-specific, sustainable solutions for global nutrition challenges. I aim to collaborate with researchers, practitioners, and communities to transform food systems and advance nutrition equity worldwide.
