Alix Campbell
Student | Full-time | United KingdomMSc Reproductive & Sexual Health Research
Educational/professional background
I completed my undergraduate degree in biomedical science in 2022. I carried out a research project on young adults' opinions to HIV vaccines and their general knowledge on HIV transmission. This flagged an interest in sexual health awareness as the results showed that a basic level of understanding was lower than anticipated. I wanted to work in health promotion and subsequently went into pharmaceutical medical advertising. I worked across several brands mainly in oncology and rare diseases, and across the UK, Europe, and US markets.
Research interests or career goals
I have a strong interest in STI control and public awareness of STI transmission mainly within the UK.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
The reason I chose MSc Reproductive & Sexual Health Research was to expand my knowledge in the area and carry out research in an environment full of academics with the same passion. I wanted to get an understanding into the research that goes into the literature on sexual health. It’s a taboo subject and I want to be involved in breaking the stigma. I chose LSHTM as the Sexually Transmitted Infections Research Interest Group and the modules were exactly what I wanted to study and gave a broad range of topics to choose from each term.
