Welcome to the Distance Learning Welcome Week timetable. Click through the drop-down menus below to find the sessions you wish to attend and their relevant links. Sessions will take place via Zoom and the common password for all sessions will be emailed to new students. Please click the links in the timetable below to join.
Some sessions are delivered twice during the week, so that you can attend on a day and time which best suits your schedule and time zone. On Thursday, you can join us at the Welcome Fair, the equivalent of a "freshers' fair", where you can visit virtual Zoom stalls and find out more about the services and opportunities available to you.
Session times listed in UK time (BST). If you are in a different timezone, you can use this easy timezone converter to plan your schedule.

Welcome and Studying at LSHTM
Meet LSHTM Director Liam Smeeth, Dean of Students & Taught Programmes Craig Higgins and Associate Deans of Education Melanie Morris, Alan Brown and Peter Weatherburn to find our more about being a master’s degree student at LSHTM.
Student Life at LSHTM
Find out more about how the interests of distance learning students are represented via Programme Representatives and the Students' Representative Council, how to volunteer as a Student & Digital Content Ambassador or Centres Student Liaison Officers, and how to connect with our alumni community.
Student & Academic Services
Hear from the services which will support you throughout your studies, including careers services; LSHTM's Library, Archive and Open Research Services; and University of London.
Meet Your Programme Team
Join your programme peers and hear from the teams behind your course, such as your Programme Director(s) and Programme Administration Managers. Each programme team has prepared an hour-long session tailored to your course, so you can get to know the team better and ask questions.
Using AI Responsibly to Support Your Learning
Artificial Intelligence tools can enhance your learning when used responsibly. This session provides a brief overview of how AI can serve as a supportive companion to learning, rather than replace your own critical and creative thinking. The session explores some practical uses of AI, approaches to maintaining academic integrity, and outlines additional support for using AI at LSHTM.
EDI at LSHTM
An introduction to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at LSHTM. Our vision is to provide an inclusive research, education and working environment reflected through a community that everyone feels a part of, which is safe, respectful, supportive and enables all to reach their full potential.
Decolonising Global Health & the Curriculum
This session will provide a brief overview of colonialism and global health, and LSHTM’s role in both. The Decolonising the Curriculum Group works to support the faculties to build their understanding of what is meant to decolonise the curriculum and what practical steps teams might take when doing so.
Introduction to Moodle
In this interactive session, you will be shown how to navigate and make the most of our Moodle online learning environment. Moodle is your go to platform for accessing programme and module information, assessment guidelines, and a wealth of resources. Whether you need to download documents, watch videos, or participate in forum discussions, Moodle has you covered. We’ll guide you through the steps to log in and find your way around the platform, how to effectively use key tools within Moodle to enhance your learning experience and be on hand to answer your questions.
Bookshelf Training (VitalSource)
Learn about Bookshelf, an online resource that provides you with both instant access to your eTextbooks and a variety of study tools to support you during your studies with LSHTM.
Welcome Fair
Our Welcome Fair is the equivalent of a "freshers' fair", where you can find out more about the student services available to you and opportunities to get involved at LSHTM. Virtual Zoom stands will be open throughout the sessions so you can drop in and out of calls at your own pace, visit as many of the stands as you like and ask your questions.
Careers Highlights and End of Week Party
Listen to recent alumni talk about their careers after their studies at LSHTM. Then join your peers in the end of week party, where there’ll be a fun quiz and prizes to be won.
Social Drop-in
Get to know other new students from around the world in an unmoderated open chat call. Join your peers in an informal setting over breakfast, lunch or after work, depending on where you are based. Programme Directors and Programme Administration Managers will be available at some sessions for informal conversations.
