Cross-Cutting Areas

Our cross-cutting areas, such as social science and data and statistics support and strengthen all aspects of our research. These foundational functions ensure quality, relevance, and impact across studies and platforms. Explore how these areas contribute to the success of our science.

Data and Statistics

The Statistics and Data Section plays a central role in the design, implementation, and analysis of the Unit’s research. From the early stages of concept development and funding applications, through to study design, data collection, and final analysis, the team ensures statistical rigor and data integrity across all research activities. Findings are shared through peer-reviewed publications, national and international conference presentations, and policy engagement.

Social sciences

Social science is embedded across all research at the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit, offering vital insights into the social, cultural, political, and economic factors that influence health. Our crosscutting social science work enhances the relevance, ethics, and impact of research by ensuring it is grounded in the lived experiences of communities.
