CMMID event card

This talk will introduce the research of the South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA) at Stellenbosch University. Specifically, it will focus on their research in cervical cancer elimination modelling, HPV vaccine strategy, and wastewater surveillance along with infectious disease modelling.

Speaker

Dr Cari van Schalkwyk

Dr Cari van Schalkwyk is the Head of Modelling at the South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA) at Stellenbosch University. Trained in epidemiology and mathematical statistics, Cari uses modelling to understand how infectious diseases spread, and how we can stop them.

Her work spans infection-attributable cancers, vaccine-preventable diseases, and environmental surveillance, with a focus on translating modelling evidence into public health policy in South Africa and across the continent.
