Real-time Evaluation for Programme Improvement

The success of health interventions and programmes largely depends on how well they are implemented. Most evaluations are done retrospectively, providing learning ‘for next time’, which is important but misses key opportunities to improve interventions and programmes as they are being delivered. We urgently need to adapt and develop new methods for evaluating implementation that can be used in real-time to improve programmes.

The Centre for Evaluation is holding a series of two events to do this. We would like to harness the experience of staff members and external partners to explore experiences, challenges and successes in using real-time evaluation for programme improvement.

This first event is an internal scoping exercise with the objective of harnessing the experience of LSHTM staff members in this field, their perceptions of the existing methodological gaps, and suggestions for closing the gaps, and will be held as follows:

This event will be followed by a drinks reception.

Agenda:

14:00 – 14.10 – Welcome and introduction

14.10 – 15:30 – Eight Speed talks (10 mins each)

15:30 – 16:00 – Coffee Break

16:00 – 17:00 – Panel and audience discussion

17:00 – 18:00 – Drinks reception

If you are a staff member and would like to present your experience and participate in the speed talks, please send an email to evaluation@lshtm.ac.uk before 20th June with “Speed talk for real-time evaluations” in the subject, giving a suggested title and a 100 word summary. If you are unsure if your work is relevant, or have any other questions, please email evaluation@lshtm.ac.uk.
