Malaria across scales: From global burden to cases on our doorstep
Lecture on contemporary global health issues
Despite the intensive efforts this millennium for the control and elimination of malaria and success that this has brought, we are at a critical turning point. Interruption of funding, drug and insecticide resistance, invasive mosquito species, climate change and population migration all conspire to reverse the gains we have made. Our lecture will give a snapshot of malaria across scales: from the global problem, to what is being done to hold back the resurgence of malaria in Ethiopia, and finally the role LSHTM plays in diagnosing and monitoring imported malaria in the UK.
