Integration of mental health services into primary care in Nepal

Summary:

The Programme to Improve Mental Health Care (PRIME) research programme consortium aims to implement and evaluate mental health care services in 5 low- and middle-income country districts. After six years, two earthquakes, a petrol embargo, and countless changes of government, the PRIME-Nepal team is ready to report on its experiences with implementation in Chitwan District.

 

About the speaker:

Nagendra Prasad Luitel is the Head of Research at Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Nepal (www.tponepal.org), a leading psychosocial and mental health organisation that aims to promote psychosocial well-being and mental health of children and families and especially vulnerable communities in Nepal. He is a PhD candidate at University of Utrecht the Netherlands and doing his PhD on Integration of Mental Health into the Primary Health Care System in post conflict Nepal. Mr. Luitel has co-led several large mental health research programs over the past years including PRIME. He has been involved in mental health research for last ten years and has published more than 35 papers on mental health in international peer-reviewed journals. His area of expertise includes intervention research, epidemiology, and monitoring and evaluation.
