Seminar co-hosted by the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team and the Health in Humanitarian Crises Centre.

The 10th known outbreak of Ebola in DRC has passed 2000 cases and 1300 deaths, and is taking place in the conflict affected North-Kivu region.  Gillian Mckay and Samuel Boland - two LSHTM Research Degree candidates - both with extensive experience in the West African Ebola outbreak, went to DRC with the WHO to work in surveillance, coordination, infection prevention and control and case management.

In this conversational seminar, Gillian and Sam will present their experiences in DRC, and will jointly discuss their perspectives on a variety of issues, including the security situation, roles of international and national actors, comparisons to the Sierra Leone response and how evidence is generated and taken up in the operation.

Gillian Mckay is a DrPH candidate in Global Health and Development where she researches the impact of the Sierra Leone Ebola outbreak on reproductive health.

Sam Boland is a PhD candidate in Public Health and Policy where he researches the perception and role of military and security services support to the Sierra Leone Ebola outbreak.
