InBusiness: Lessons from an inclusive livelihood programme in Kenya

We will present evidence from the PENDA programme evaluation of InBusiness in Kenya, an intervention targeted at microentrepreneurs with disabilities and their caregivers.

Self-employment, or microentrepreneurship, is a major source of livelihoods in low- and middle-income countries, including Kenya. Yet, persons with disabilities and caregivers face additional barriers to successful microentrepreneurship, such as discrimination or costs associated with providing care. These barriers can limit economic opportunities.

The InBusiness programme is a livelihood support initiative targeted to microentrepreneurs with disabilities and their caregivers, led by Light for the World through the Inclusive Futures Consortium. The PENDA programme at the International Centre for Evidence in Disability (LSHTM) and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) have led an evaluation of InBusiness to inform disability inclusive development initiatives.

In this webinar, we will hear about how InBusiness supported microentrepreneurs with disabilities to develop and grow their businesses through dedicated training, skills development and “business growth kits”. We will also explore strengths and areas of improvement that have emerged from the findings.
