Educational/professional background
I completed my BSc Health Information Science at the University of Victoria, Canada. After graduation, I went on to work as an analyst for an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Implementation project, a joint undertaking between three provincial and regional health authorities in British Columbia, Canada.
Research interests or career goals
I have a broad range of interests that include infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and pharmacoepidemiology. My aspiration is to leverage the high availability of EHR data for research in these areas. My current research interest is in investigating the risk factors of comorbidities in cancer survivors using EHR data.
As I am passionate about both research and implementation of public health interventions, I am looking to pursue a career that encompasses both aspects.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose MSc Epidemiology at LSHTM because of its rigorous training in epidemiological methods and statistical analysis while also allowing students to specialise in areas of interest. I was especially excited about the "Analysis of Electronic Health Record Data" module, through which I could gain an integrated understanding of utilizing and analysing EHR data in the context of epidemiological research. Beyond academics, LSHTM is renowned worldwide for its research excellence and diversity. Collaboration with students and faculty from an array of backgrounds has given me the opportunity to expand my perspectives and build a multidisciplinary professional network.
