Educational/professional background

I specialized in sociocultural anthropology for my undergraduate degree and went on to complete my MPH focusing on the social determinants of health and health policy. I previously worked in global health diplomacy for the Federal Government of Canada where I supported Canada’s relationship with international/multilateral organizations working on public health and developed Canada’s positions on public health issues across the United Nations system. I worked closely with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and, the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) secretariat. In addition, I also supported Canada's national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Research interests or career goals

My current research interest is in investigating the determinants, risk factors, and distribution of cancers and other NCDs to generate potential prevention and treatment strategies. I look forward to seeing how my MSc will shape my research interests.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I decided to return for the MSc Epidemiology because I wanted to further develop my technical public health skills in epidemiological methodologies and advanced statistical analysis. LSHTM was an obvious choice given its standing as one of the most prestigious and reputable institutions in the field of public health. The high standard of teaching offered and the prospects of working with and learning with students/ faculty from diverse backgrounds were also important factors for choosing LSHTM.
