Educational/professional background

I am a medical student at the University of Hong Kong, studying the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Programme. I intercalated at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 2024/25 to complete my MSc Public Health for Eye Care. After completing this MSc, I returned to Hong Kong to resume my clinical years and continue my training to become a doctor. My background is therefore a mix of clinical medicine and a growing interest in eye health and public health, which is what led me to pursue this intercalated degree at LSHTM.

What I enjoyed most about studying my programme/at LSHTM

What I enjoyed most was being able to connect my clinical interest in ophthalmology with a broader public health perspective. Before coming to LSHTM, I completed a clinical attachment at the Department of Ophthalmology, which I found very interesting. I also noticed that there are many eye health issues in my local community that require more immediate and accessible services. I chose this programme because I wanted to understand other ways of helping patients outside of a clinical setting. At LSHTM, I have valued learning more about how public health approaches can complement clinical care and how eye care services can be improved at a wider system level.
