MSc Public Health

Solape Tunde-Dauda

Educational/professional background

Hi everyone! I’m Solape, a medical student at the University of Leeds currently intercalating at LSHTM for an MSc Public Health. I’ve completed four years of medical school and I’m really enjoying my time in London!

Research interests or career goals

Clinically, I’m interested in specialising in psychiatry. I’ve previously completed research in intellectual disability and old age psychiatry, and I’m also fascinated by liaison psychiatry and medically unexplained symptoms. Studying Public Health at LSHTM has broadened my perspective on the challenges facing health systems and deepened my understanding of how health promotion can be meaningful across different contexts. For my final project, I hope to explore topics within public health psychiatry—possibly mental health promotion—but I’m excited to see where my interests lead!

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I chose LSHTM for its global reputation and the comprehensive nature of its programme. I’ve been so inspired and humbled by the wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise among my peers and lecturers. I’ve learned so much that will undoubtedly support me in my future career as a doctor and psychiatrist.

I’m also incredibly grateful to be a recipient of the Next Generation Scholarship. Without this support, I wouldn’t have been able to access the amazing opportunities LSHTM offers, and I’m excited to see the doors this degree will open!
