Odinaka Kingsley Obeta
Student | Full-time | NigeriaMSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing
Educational/professional background
I hold a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree from the University of Jos, Nigeria. After my clinical internship, I went on to manage a 2-year project focused on strengthening access to mental health services and disability inclusion in Plateau State, Nigeria.
I currently Co-Chair the RBM Partnership to End Malaria Youth workstream and serve as Vice-Chairperson of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) Youth Advisory Council. Through these roles, I help to shape policy, advocacy, and youth-driven actions for malaria elimination across Africa. I am also the Founder of Block Malaria Africa, a registered non-profit amplifying community engagement, storytelling, and research to accelerate the fight against malaria in Africa.
Research interests or career goals
My current research interests revolve around domestic health financing for malaria programs. Previously, my research focused on malaria prevalence studies in endemic communities and understanding barriers and enablers to the uptake of malaria vaccines in sub-Saharan Africa. I am passionate about leveraging community and youth engagement in driving health policy.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I first read about LSHTM in my first year as an undergraduate student. I eventually chose to study here because of the extensive work on malaria research, emphasis on evidence-driven policy, and the unique opportunity the MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing programme offers to explore the intersection of economics, health systems, and health policy.
