MSc Public Health

Madeline Ross

Educational/professional background

I have recently graduated from a BSc in Human Sciences at UCL (just next door to LSHTM!). My dissertation explored the impact of NHS maternity charging on undocumented migrants in England and I took various public health focused modules while I was there. Don’t think you’ll be the only one coming straight from undergrad - you definitely won’t be!

Research interests or career goals

My undergraduate degree was very interdisciplinary so I am drawn to lots of different aspects of public health. I have a particular interest in maternal and child health, but I’m also enjoying learning more about health economics. I’m also passionate about health equity, particularly in relation to migrant health, and I hope to work in health policy in the future!

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I’ve always had interdisciplinary academic interests which is why I chose the MSc Public Health and specifically the general stream! Public health is so fascinating because there are simply so many areas and perspectives to explore and I knew I wanted to expose myself to as many as possible. LSHTM also stands out as a top global institution for public health so you will truly be learning from the top experts! And it’s true that the network and meaningful connections you’ll make are just as enriching as the teaching.
