MSc Public Health

Kharylle Rosario

Educational/professional background

I earned my undergraduate degree at the University of California, San Diego. I have worked as a research associate for the Global Health Policy and Data Institute in San Diego, which aimed to look at how health misinformation and disinformation have been impacting perceptions towards public health issues (health infodemiology).

Research interests or career goals

I am passionate about many topics in the realm of public health. For my research, I am interested in understanding the fiscal impact of dementia care and population ageing on current health systems. Other topics that I am interested in exploring are in improving access to healthcare in low-resource settings, health systems strengthening and capacity building, health communications, and health policy (monitoring and evaluation).

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I chose LSHTM because of its global approach to public health. Their emphasis on decolonizing public health and translating their research into locally relevant solutions aligns closely with my personal mantra to be globally aware, yet locally focused when approaching the topics that I am interested in. I chose my programme, MSc Public Health, because of its interdisciplinary nature in understanding health from intersecting factors such as social, structural, commercial, and political factors. Doing my MSc at LSHTM has been a rewarding experience, and I believe that the resources and network that the university has equips me to contribute to equitable and evidence-informed public health research and solutions.

Extra information

I can help with advising international students on their applications, as well as what living in London is like for an international student. I can talk about the essentials, such as: looking for housing in London as an international student, getting started with bank accounts, getting a phone number, and also how one can thrive in London in spite of being away from home and the familiar.
