Kesia Sawdon
Student | Full-time | United KingdomMSc Epidemiology
Educational/professional background
I grew up in the UK and did my undergraduate degree at the University of Bath in Natural Sciences (Biology with Chemistry).
As part of my BSc, I undertook a placement year at the Francis Crick Institute in London, where I used microscopy to investigate cell polarity proteins in the one-cell embryo of the model organism C. elegans.
Research interests or career goals
While my undergraduate degree focused on cell biology, genetics, and evolution, I knew that I wanted to take my career in a more person-centred direction. Epidemiology was the perfect next step for me, where I can apply my quantitative biology skills to real, human populations to make a difference in our understanding of disease and the implementation of healthcare.
I chose LSHTM because of the connections it offers and its incredible global impact across such a wide range of health and disease areas.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
Currently, I am most drawn to the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), from the exposures that can increase the risk of them to the impact of different treatments and interventions.
