Educational/professional background

I acquired a BSc in Medical Laboratory Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi in 2015, a Post-graduate Diploma in Health Research Methods from Pwani University in 2018, and an MSc in Immunology of Infectious Diseases from LSHTM in 2019. I have been working on research in tropical infectious diseases since 2016.

What I enjoyed most about studying at LSHTM

I guess most of my memories are from the LSHTM library, not only for reading and preparing for lectures, but also for group discussions. I also enjoyed making friends from different parts of the world, and we are still in touch long after graduating. As an immunologist, working in the laboratories was always enjoyable.

Since graduating I have been...

I am currently working as a research officer at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya. My research involves understanding why severely anaemic children have a higher risk of acquiring invasive bacterial infections, with a focus on the effects of immune status and hepcidin (the iron-regulating hormone).
