Halima Mohammed
Student | Full-time | NigeriaMSc Public Health
Educational/professional background
Hi everyone! I’m Halima, a recent Biomedical Science graduate from the University of Sheffield. I joined LSHTM straight after completing my undergraduate degree, because I wanted to better understand and address health issues affecting underrepresented communities.
Research interests or career goals
Well, I have quite a few interests (and being here doesn’t help because there’s SO much to explore!), but I’m especially passionate about maternal health, particularly maternal mental health. This is often overlooked in many communities, including mine, and I’m eager to explore it further at LSHTM.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
Aside from LSHTM being ‘the School for public health’ (and it being amazing for my CV), I chose this university to gain a multidisciplinary perspective on public health, which the diversity of students and staff has truly allowed me to do. In terms of my programme, the opportunity to choose a stream within MSc Public Health, further made LSHTM stand out to me.
Extra information
Transitioning from biomedical science, a laboratory-heavy field, to Public Health taught me how to make the most of my transferable skills. I can advise prospective students on introductory courses in public health and data analysis, which can be especially helpful for those new to the field.
