Student | Full-time | United KingdomMSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing
Educational/professional background
BSc Chemistry, University of Birmingham. I started my career as an operational researcher in the Ministry of Defence, before moving into HM Treasury to work on public spending policy and analysis. I’ve worked across several policy portfolios, such as local government and health, and led on aspects of the departmental budget setting process. Since leaving the civil service, I have worked as a management consultant in the NHS: highlights have included developing options appraisals, working on public health initiatives, and supporting service redesign in mental health.
Research interests or career goals
I am taking a broad range of courses this year and am looking to narrow my research interests. Currently, I am interested in health policy design and evaluation and improving my understanding of how different health systems are financed.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing because it allows you to explore a variety of courses and benefit from expertise at both LSHTM and LSE. The two institutions are world-leading, with teaching from experts who are actively contributing to their respective fields. HPPF brings together a diverse student cohort, and you are exposed to lots of different ideas and perspectives. I was also looking to improve my skills in economics and evaluation and the courses available give you a robust understanding of how to design, conduct and appraise various approaches.
