Educational/professional background
BSc in Biomedical Sciences (Cardiff University) with Professional Training Year at UK DRI Cardiff (Immunity in Alzheimer’s)
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in how immune cells function in health and disease, and how this understanding can be translated into real-world applications that improve human health. I enjoy exploring experimental design, how and why methods are chosen, and how results guide the next steps in research. I particularly enjoy laboratory work and have had the opportunity carry out imaging techniques such as confocal/fluorescence and electron microscopy from university/placement and research internships.
My interests, which tend to chnage every now and then, currently lie in translational immunology, where scientific insights can be used to inform interventions and treatments with tangible benefits for populations.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose LSHTM for its strong focus on infectious diseases and global health, and its emphasis on translating scientific research into tangible impact. I also appreciate the school’s diverse and collaborative community, which creates an inspiring environment to learn from people with a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
