Educational/professional background
I studied medicine at the University of Tokyo and completed my clinical residency in Japan. As my interest in health economics and healthcare resource allocation grew, I completed the MSc Health Policy, Planning and Financing at LSHTM and LSE in 2025. I then began a PhD in Health Economics at LSHTM, supported by an ESRC studentship through the UBEL Doctoral Training Partnership.
Research interests or career goals
My research examines inequalities in access to cancer treatments in England and how these inequalities affect patient survival. I am particularly interested in health economics, cancer epidemiology and causal inference. In the future, I hope to conduct research that can inform cancer policy in England and Japan and contribute to more equitable healthcare.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
My MSc at LSHTM and LSE strengthened my interest in health economics and health policy and encouraged me to continue my studies at LSHTM. The PhD programme allows me to develop these interests with expert supervision. The ESRC programme provides interdisciplinary social science training and opportunities to engage with a diverse community of PhD students across London.
