MSc Public Health for Global Practice

Audrey Dombek

Educational/professional background

I am from Carnation, Washington and earned my BA in Public Global Health from the University of Washington. During my undergraduate studies, I conducted Community Based Participatory Research with a rural women's group in Baluwa, Nepal focused on WASH and clean water access. I founded a chapter of Days for Girls, an INGO increasing sustainable menstrual hygiene access globally. I also worked as a research assistant at the Women's Health Initiative at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, collecting health outcomes data, as well as many years working with the houseless populations in my community. I began my MSc at LSHTM immediately after graduation.

Research interests or career goals

I'm passionate about working with directly in parternship with communities in low- and middle-income countries, at the programme building and implementation level. One area of interest I have is the intersection of healthcare and public health, focusing on health system strengthening and capacity building in underserved and conflict-affected areas with organizations such as PIH and MSF. Additionally, I'm interested in women's health, social determinants of health, and infectious diseases. I'm currently exploring whether to pursue medical school next.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

LSHTM had always been my dream school. My undergraduate education focused on US public health, but I needed global perspective for my career interests. LSHTM's global community has exposed me to new opportunities and completely transformed my perspective on global health.
