My current job title is a Midwife in King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, however, I have been offered a wonderful position back home in Ireland as a Clinical Midwife Manager 2 - Pregnancy Options Coordinator. This is an exciting new position within the health service that will coordinate the implementation of the abortion service in Ireland.
I would not have been offered this position without the support of the MSc Sexual & Reproductive Health Policy and Programming (Online) at LSHTM. Considering the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is now ranking number 3 in the world for public health and has exceptional experts teaching the SRHPP course, I feel greatly prepared for such a role.
I have always been intrigued by LSHTM and the reputation it holds in the public health world so I have kept an eye on its courses over the years. In 2024, I came across the Sexual & Reproductive Health Policy and Programming master's, and I was immediately drawn to its content.
I was working in South Sudan at the time with Médecins Sans Frontières as a Sexual and Gender Based Violence Manager and I felt compelled to return to academia so that I could bring evidence to practice in a way that strengthens sexual and reproductive health programming in humanitarian and conflict-affected settings.
My favourite part of the programme has been the expert guest speakers featured in modules such as abortion policy and programming, and current issues in safe motherhood and perinatal health. The information shared and the discussions generated in these modules have been both profound and inspiring.
