Run jointly with Birkbeck, University of London, this new BSc Public Health draws on LSHTM's public health expertise to give you the skills and knowledge needed to improve population health, prevent disease and tackle health inequalities. Public health is a growing area of employment and investment, and this course is built around developing the practical skills needed for effective public health practice, including the ability to work co-operatively and collaboratively to advance health and health equity worldwide.

What will you learn?
The course is designed to balance breadth and depth in public health, helping you build both the practical skills employers look for and a solid grounding in academic expertise. You'll engage with some of the sector's most urgent challenges, covering topics that span epidemiology, the social determinants of health inequalities, health promotion, health economics, health data, global health, and planetary health and social justice.
You will be able to choose from either a career development or micro-placement module to allow you to focus specifically on developing your employability.
Duration
This programme can be studied:
- three years full-time;
- four years part-time;
- four years full-time with a Foundation year;
- or six years part-time with a Foundation year.
Teaching will be delivered between LSHTM and Birkbeck academic staff and therefore you will benefit from access to the facilities, resources and academic communities of both Birkbeck and LSHTM.
Teaching will normally include in-person small-group events such as workshops, seminars and tutorials, supported by rich online materials on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) ‘Moodle’. The curriculum has been designed to engage with issues of population health, infectious diseases, health system challenges, health inequalities, and issues of social justice and sustainability within health from local to global contexts.
