Process Evaluation Theme Lead

Open for applications

The Centre for Evaluation aims to improve the design and conduct of evaluations of complex public health interventions through the development, application, and dissemination of rigorous methods, and facilitate the use of robust evidence to inform policy and practice decisions. The Centre engages actively with a large group of internal and external members. It is organised around three themes: quantifying impact, process evaluation and evidence synthesis. The Centre has an active student group, coordinated by five MSc student liaison officers (SLOs) and two RD SLOs, and runs an engaging series of internal and external events throughout the year.

The Centre is managed by two co-Directors and three Deputy Directors, supported by three co-leads for each theme. Our team is looking for an enthusiastic LSHTM academic staff member for the role of Process Evaluation Theme Lead.

Theme leads are members of academic staff with expertise in these areas, who undertake the roles for a period of three years (or longer). The role is shared with two other co-leads, usually bringing together a range of experiences across faculties.

Qualifications/skills

  • Research Fellow, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor from all Faculties or MRC Units to maintain cross-faculty balance. We are currently seeking to integrate more with MRC Units and overseas research groups, and particularly encourage applications from MRC Units and overseas research groups.
  • Experience of conducting process evaluations, with expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods approaches to evaluation.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, ability to help others connect both inside and outside LSHTM, and to promote the research of Centre members, with particular focus on diversity and enabling early/mid-career staff and research degree students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other theme leads and make a creative contribution to theme activities in line with the Centre strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to further methodological development, skills-building and information sharing for Centre members.
  • Organise events relevant to the Process Evaluation theme, including workshops, lectures and seminars. Ideally, these should be coherently linked, with each theme sponsoring a “series” to build on previous events.
  • Organise sessions that promote good practice in process evaluation such as review of grant or fellowship proposals, advice on protocol and tool development, drop in sessions, or general discussion sessions.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s communication strategy via blogs, newsletters and other forums, with a focus on reporting thematically relevant events, new research, and relevant grant opportunities.
  • Promote the Centre internally and externally by acknowledging membership of the Centre (e.g. in publications, staff bio, email signature), and representing the Centre at departmental and faculty meetings and as well as external meetings and conferences.
  • Participate in activities that aim to generate Centre income, and where relevant identify opportunities to include resources for Centre-led activities within grant applications.
  • Promote SLO involvement with activities related to the Process Evaluation Theme

A small budget will be made available annually for each theme, to be used to support activities such as paying travel and accommodation for external speakers, providing refreshments during workshops, and other incidental expenses.
